Dry needling is a technique used by Sports Massage therapists as well as many physiotherapists for the treatment of pain and restrictions in soft tissue resulting in movement impairments.
This technique makes use of a ‘dry’ needle – which is without any medication / or injection. The needline is inserted into the skin into the muscle.
Dry needling is also known as ‘Western’ Acupuncture or Medical Acupuncture. This is not the same as Chinese acupuncture which is based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Dry needling relies on modern western medicine concepts all supported by research.
The needles used are much thinner than standard domestic needles.
Dry needling can be used as part of a massage treatment to release very tight areas of muscle.
